About Us

Fishpond Ironworks is a subsidiary of Bó Steel Ltd which owned and operated by Paul Lyons. Paul graduated from Dublin City University as a Mechanical Engineer. After a brief time in industry, he spent a number of years with the Defence Forces as an Ordnance Mechanical Engineer. He left the Forces to continue to develop his businesses.

Although Bó Steel focuses on the agricultural market, Paul has always had a passion for entrance gates and wrought iron work and in 2018 is launching a the new venture, Fishpond Ironworks. The workshop that houses both businesses is located near an middle age tower house or castle at ‘The Fishpond’, Kilchreest, Loughrea, Co Galway. The site has been the location for the film ‘Alfred the great’ in 1969. It was then run by a fibreglass company manufacturing boats. For many years it processes skins and hides and now the site is home to Bó Steel and Fishpond Ironworks.

In the past few years, Paul and his team of expert fabricators have completed a number of key projects including a sculpture in collaboration with the sculpture Ceara Conway entitled ‘Journey’ which was installed at Carraig National school in Nenagh Co Tipperary. Fishpond Iron works specialises in gates that are anything but ordinary or common place, if you need something bespoke but long lasting and well made, you have come to the right place.
